The word derives from the German verb kompaktieren, meaning “to compact.” Kompaktors come in a variety of sizes, from small mobile units suitable for local garbage collection to large industrial models used in municipal waste facilities and landfills.

The primary function of a Kompaktors is to reduce the volume of waste by applying mechanical pressure, often in the range of 4 to 10 tons. This volume reduction can reach 90 percent, significantly decreasing the number of loads required for transport and storage. In addition to municipal refuse, Kompaktors are used for processing construction and demolition debris, agricultural residues, and recyclable goods such as cardboard, plastic, and metal.
