Koagulationsbrist, also known as a coagulation disorder or bleeding disorder, refers to a group of medical conditions where the blood's ability to form clots is impaired. This deficiency can lead to excessive bleeding, either spontaneously or after injury. The clotting process is a complex cascade involving numerous proteins called clotting factors. A deficiency in one or more of these factors, or a problem with platelets which are essential for clot formation, can result in koagulationsbrist.

There are many types of koagulationsbrist, with hemophilia A and B being among the most well-known inherited disorders. Hemophilia is caused by a deficiency in clotting factors VIII and IX, respectively. Von Willebrand disease is another common inherited bleeding disorder, affecting both clotting factor VIII and platelet function. Acquired koagulationsbrist can develop later in life due to other medical conditions, such as liver disease, vitamin K deficiency, or certain medications like anticoagulants.

Symptoms of koagulationsbrist vary depending on the severity and type of disorder. They can range from easy bruising, prolonged bleeding from cuts, nosebleeds, and bleeding gums to more severe internal bleeding in joints, muscles, or the brain. Diagnosis typically involves a thorough medical history, physical examination, and blood tests to assess clotting times and levels of specific clotting factors. Treatment aims to control bleeding episodes and prevent complications, often involving the administration of clotting factor concentrates, medications to promote clotting, or transfusions. Genetic counseling is important for individuals with inherited koagulationsbrist.
