knopbrydning
Knopbrydning is a biological process of asexual reproduction in which a new individual develops as a bud or outgrowth from the body of a parent organism. The bud forms at a specific site, grows by cell division and enlargement, and may eventually detach to live independently as a clone of the parent, or remain attached for some time before separation. The term is used in Danish to describe similar budding phenomena across different kingdoms, including yeast, plants, and some animals.
In yeasts and many fungi, knopbrydning is most commonly observed as budding (gemmulation), where a small protrusion
Mechanistically, budding typically involves polarized growth, targeted delivery of cellular resources to a defined outgrowth site,
Advantages of knopbrydning include rapid population expansion without the need for sexual recombination, and the ability
