Klarpasses are mountain passes in the fictional Klarland region, historically used as cross-valley transits and today valued as cultural and scenic landmarks.

The name combines klar, meaning clear in the local language, with pass, denoting a route through mountains, and reflects the routes’ perceived navigability and visibility.

They line the Klarland crest, connect northern basins to southern plains, and lie at elevations roughly 1,200–2,400 meters. Approaches vary from steep to moderate; modern roads have been built on several passes, while others remain for hiking.

History: Documented since medieval times, Klarpasses facilitated trade and migration and influenced regional settlement. In the 19th–20th centuries, motorized routes complemented older trails; many passes were reinforced and integrated into road networks. Today, several passes are preserved as heritage routes.

Contemporary use: The passes attract hikers and cyclists; some are seasonally closed for snow or avalanche risk. Authorities promote safety and conservation, encouraging sustainable visitors and guided tours.
