kilobázispár
Kilobázispár, often abbreviated as kbp or kb, is a unit of measurement used in molecular biology to describe the length of DNA or RNA sequences. One kilobázispár is equal to 1,000 base pairs. A base pair refers to a pair of nucleotide bases in a nucleic acid molecule, such as adenine (A) paired with thymine (T) or guanine (G) paired with cytosine (C) in DNA. In RNA, uracil (U) replaces thymine, so adenine pairs with uracil.
The kilobázispár unit is commonly employed when discussing the size of genes, chromosomes, and entire genomes.
