Keskusyksikkö (Finnish for "central unit") is a generic term used in Finnish computing and automation to refer to the primary processing unit in a system. In the context of general-purpose computers, keskusyksikkö denotes what is commonly called the central processing unit, or CPU: the component that executes instructions, performs arithmetic and logic operations, and controls data movement between memory and peripherals. In many descriptions, it encompasses the control unit, arithmetic logic unit, registers, and often cache, depending on the level of abstraction.

In embedded systems and industrial automation, keskusyksikkö is used to describe the central controller or master unit that coordinates sensors and actuators, sometimes in a distributed network where several peripheral modules report to the central unit.
