Kerrokselliset is Finnish an adjective that describes something consisting of or divided into distinct layers. The term is commonly used in scientific and technical contexts to indicate a layered or stratified arrangement of material, matter, or structure. Its root comes from kerros, meaning layer, with the -ellinen suffix forming an adjective.

In geology and earth science, kerrokselliset viittaa stratified or layered rocks, where bedding planes or lamination separate successive deposits or lithologies. Such layering can arise from sedimentary processes, volcanic deposition, or certain metamorphic conditions that produce planar configurations. Kerrokselliset formations are typically analyzed by examining layer thickness, composition, and the transitions between layers, which hold clues to the rock’s history and formation environment.

The concept also appears in soil science, where maakerrokset (soil horizons) may be described as kerroksellisiä, reflecting distinct layers with different texture, color, or moisture characteristics. In biology and medicine, kerroksellisiä epiteeli- on kerroksellisiä epiteelisiä fins, referring to tissues composed of multiple cell layers, such as stratified epithelium.

Outside the natural sciences, the term can be used more generally for any layered or tiered arrangement, including engineered materials or architectural structures that exhibit deliberate layering.
