Kauppakamari, the Finnish term for chamber of commerce, is a member-based organization that represents and serves businesses and traders. Local kauppakamarit, and sometimes national bodies, participate in a global network of chambers of commerce and industry, with the aim of improving the business climate and facilitating trade and economic development.

Historically, chambers of commerce emerged in many countries to support merchants and industry, and in Finland the kauppakamari concept later became institutionalized among urban and regional business communities. Today, they act as intermediaries between companies, government authorities, and other stakeholders.

Organization and membership: Local chambers are typically governed by elected boards and operate on a non-profit basis. Membership is open to companies of various sizes, and in some contexts individuals can join. Fees fund member services and activities.

Activities and services: They provide policy dialogue and advocacy, market and regulatory information, export and market-entry support, networking events, training and advisory services, and opportunities for business-to-business cooperation. They may also offer mediation or dispute-resolution resources and industry-specific guidance.

Impact and network: Kauppakamari work aims to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises, support regional development, and promote international trade. Through national and international connections, the Finnish kauppakamari network helps members access foreign markets and collaborate with partner chambers abroad.
