Kattunger are young domestic cats. Typically, a litter of kittens consists of between two and five offspring. Kittens are born blind and deaf, with their eyes opening around seven to ten days after birth and their ears starting to function shortly after. Their initial dependence on their mother is profound for warmth, nourishment, and sanitation. Kitten development is rapid; they begin to walk and explore their surroundings within a few weeks and start to be weaned from their mother's milk around four to six weeks old. Socialization is a crucial period for kittens, usually occurring between two and seven weeks of age, during which they learn essential behaviors and social cues from their mother and littermates. This period significantly influences their temperament and ability to interact with humans and other animals later in life. Kattunger are often playful and curious, exhibiting behaviors like pouncing and chasing as they hone their predatory instincts. The transition from kittenhood to adolescence, or "juvenile," typically occurs around six months of age, at which point they are approaching sexual maturity.
