Kategóriaelmélet is a branch of mathematics that studies abstract structures and the relationships between them. It provides a framework for understanding and unifying different areas of mathematics by focusing on objects and the structure-preserving maps between them, called morphisms. Instead of dealing with the internal details of mathematical objects, category theory looks at how they interact and how their properties are preserved by these mappings.

The fundamental building blocks of category theory are objects and morphisms. For any given category, there's a collection of objects and a collection of morphisms between these objects. These morphisms must satisfy certain axioms: composition of morphisms must be associative, and for every object, there must be an identity morphism that acts as a neutral element for composition. Examples of categories include the category of sets (objects are sets, morphisms are functions), the category of vector spaces (objects are vector spaces, morphisms are linear transformations), and the category of topological spaces (objects are topological spaces, morphisms are continuous maps).

Key concepts in category theory include functors, which are mappings between categories that preserve their structure, and natural transformations, which are mappings between functors. These concepts allow for the comparison and translation of mathematical ideas across different domains. Category theory has found applications not only within mathematics but also in fields such as computer science, logic, and physics, offering a powerful and general language for expressing complex relationships and structures.
