Kaseózní is a term used to describe a cheesy or cheese-like appearance. It is most commonly encountered in a medical context, particularly in pathology, where it refers to the characteristic cheesy appearance of certain lesions or substances found in the body.

The most well-known example of kaseózní material is seen in tuberculosis. Tuberculous lesions, especially in the lungs, can undergo caseous necrosis, a form of cell death that results in the tissue breaking down into a soft, granular, cheese-like mass. This material is rich in lipids and proteins. Other inflammatory processes or infections can also lead to the formation of kaseózní material, though it is strongly associated with mycobacterial infections.

Histologically, kaseózní material is amorphous and eosinophilic, meaning it stains pink with standard hematoxylin and eosin stains. It lacks cellular detail and appears granular or crumbly under the microscope. The presence of kaseózní material is often indicative of a significant pathological process that requires further investigation and diagnosis. In some instances, the kaseózní material can calcify over time.
