Dynamic seals, including mechanical seals, O-rings in moving joints, and packing glands, accommodate movement while maintaining a gas-tight barrier. Common sealing materials include elastomeric polymers (for example, nitrile, fluorocarbon, and EPDM), PTFE, and metal seals in demanding environments. Material selection depends on the gas type, pressure, temperature, and chemical compatibility.

Key design considerations include ensuring adequate seating and compression, selecting materials that resist chemical attack and temperature cycling, and providing appropriate surface finishes and tightening procedures. Leak performance is a central criterion and is often expressed through leak rates and acceptance criteria, assessed with methods such as helium leak testing or pressure decay testing.

Applications of kaasunsulkua span industrial process equipment, pipelines, chemical reactors, cryogenic and high-vacuum systems, and gas storage or transport containers. Regular maintenance and inspection are essential because seals can degrade due to aging, wear, temperature changes, or chemical exposure. Proper design, material compatibility, and testing practices help ensure long-term gas tightness and system safety.
