Järkeville is a small municipality located in the western part of the Finnish region of Satakunta. The village was officially founded in 1793 when a group of Swedish settlers moved into the dense spruce forests along the Suohilva River. The name "Järkeville" derives from the Swedish word "järv", meaning lake, referencing the numerous small lakes that punctuate the surrounding landscape.

The population of Järkeville as of the 2021 census was approximately 1,215 residents, a marked decline from a peak of 1,800 in the 1970s. The local economy has traditionally hinged on forestry, with several sawmills and wood-processing enterprises operating in the area. In recent years, sustainable forest management practices and eco-tourism have become prominent, drawing visitors to the Järkeville Nature Park and its hiking trails.

Järkeville’s cultural heritage is epitomised by its 18th‑century wooden church, St. Michael’s Church, which was completed in 1805 and is one of the few surviving examples of rural church architecture in the Satakunta region. The church remains a community gathering place and hosts an annual summer festival that celebrates local folklore and regional cuisine.

While Järkeville remains a quiet and sparsely populated locality, it maintains a strong sense of community identity. The town council actively promotes economic diversification through investment in renewable energy projects, particularly biogas energy obtained from agricultural waste. Despite its modest size, Järkeville serves as an example of how small municipalities in Finland adapt to contemporary economic and environmental challenges.
