It posits that the fundamental underlying reasons for many educational challenges or successes can be traced back to deeply ingrained, often unexamined, beliefs and assumptions held by educators, policymakers, and the societal context. These foundational beliefs, much like roots of a plant, shape the visible outcomes in the educational system.

The hypothesis suggests that instead of focusing solely on surface-level interventions or symptoms of problems, a more effective approach would be to identify and critically analyze these deep-seated assumptions.
