Juuksesiirdamine is the Estonian term for hair transplantation. It is a surgical procedure used to address hair loss, particularly male-pattern baldness. The process involves harvesting hair follicles from a donor area, typically the back or sides of the head where hair is genetically resistant to thinning, and then implanting them into the balding or thinning areas of the scalp.

There are two primary techniques used in juuksesiirdamine: Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In FUT, a strip of scalp is removed from the donor area, and then individual follicular units (groups of 1-4 hairs) are dissected and implanted. In FUE, individual follicular units are extracted directly from the donor area using a small, circular punch tool and then transplanted. The choice between FUT and FUE often depends on factors such as the extent of hair loss, the donor hair availability, and the patient's preferences.

The transplanted hairs, if successful, will grow naturally and permanently. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, and recovery time varies depending on the technique used. While generally safe, potential risks include infection, scarring, and unnatural-looking results if not performed by a skilled surgeon. It is a cosmetic procedure aimed at restoring a fuller head of hair.
