Juottamismenetelmiin refers to the various techniques and processes used in soldering. Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and putting into the gap between them an alloy, called solder. The solder has a lower melting point than the base metals. The solder melts, flows into the gap, and upon cooling, solidifies, forming a strong electrical and mechanical bond.

There are several common soldering methods. Manual soldering involves using a soldering iron to heat the joint and melt the solder. Wave soldering is an automated process where a printed circuit board (PCB) is passed over a standing wave of molten solder, which solders all the component leads simultaneously. This method is efficient for mass production. Reflow soldering is another automated process, primarily used for surface-mount devices (SMDs). Solder paste, a mixture of solder powder and flux suspended in a paste, is applied to the PCB pads. Components are placed on the paste, and the assembly is heated in an oven, causing the solder to melt and form the joint.

Other methods include dip soldering, where components or assemblies are dipped into a bath of molten solder, and laser soldering, which uses a laser beam to precisely heat the joint. The choice of soldering method depends on factors such as the type of components, production volume, cost, and required joint quality. Flux is an essential chemical agent used in all soldering processes to clean the surfaces of the metals to be joined and prevent oxidation during heating, ensuring a good solder connection.
