Jordfeilavbryter, also known as a Residual Current Device (RCD) or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI), is an electrical safety device designed to protect people from electric shock. It works by detecting imbalances in the electrical current flowing through a circuit. In a normal, healthy circuit, the current flowing out through the live wire should be equal to the current returning through the neutral wire.

If a fault occurs, such as a person touching a live wire, some of the current will flow to the ground through the person instead of returning through the neutral wire.
