Jernoverskuddet, literally “the iron surplus,” is a term used in Nordic economic history to describe a situation in which the supply of iron products exceeds domestic demand, producing a net export and contributing to a favorable balance of trade. The term has been used especially in analyses of early modern and industrial-era economies where iron ore extraction, smelting, and metallurgy formed a major export sector.
