Jatkuvavärjäys is a Finnish term referring to a continuous dyeing process used in the textile industry. Unlike batch dyeing, where fabric is dyed in discrete, separate lots, continuous dyeing involves a process where the textile material moves through the dyeing machinery without interruption. This method is particularly suitable for large-scale production of fabrics that require a uniform and consistent color across the entire piece.

The continuous dyeing process typically involves several stages. The fabric is first prepared, often through scouring and bleaching, to ensure it is receptive to the dye. Then, it is passed through a padding mangle or a continuous dyeing machine where it is impregnated with the dye liquor. After this application, the fabric usually undergoes a period of dwelling or steaming to allow the dye to penetrate the fibers and fix properly. Finally, the dyed fabric is washed to remove any excess dye and then dried.

One of the main advantages of jatkuvavärjäys is its efficiency and high output, making it cost-effective for mass production. It also tends to produce more consistent results in terms of shade and levelness compared to batch dyeing, especially for large quantities. However, it requires significant capital investment in specialized machinery and is less flexible for smaller dye lots or frequent shade changes. This process is commonly used for dyeing cotton, polyester, and blends.
