jarðskjálftarnir
Jarðskjálftarnir is the Icelandic word for earthquakes. Iceland is situated on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a divergent tectonic plate boundary, making it one of the most seismically active regions in the world. The island is located above the meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, which are slowly pulling apart. This constant movement and stress buildup along fault lines are the primary cause of the frequent seismic activity.
The majority of earthquakes in Iceland occur along the South Iceland Seismic Zone and the Reykjanes Ridge,
Icelanders are well-accustomed to earthquakes, and building codes are designed to withstand seismic activity. Despite this,
