Jakavansa is a constructed language designed to illustrate agglutinative morphology and vowel harmony. Created by linguists and hobbyists for use in teaching and speculative fiction, it features a defined phonology, morphology, and orthography. The name draws from fictional ethnolinguistic lore and serves as a neutral label within conworld contexts.

Phonology: Jakavansa has five vowel phonemes: a, e, i, o, u, with harmony rules that align suffix vowels to the stem vowels within a word. The consonant inventory includes p, t, k, m, n, s, l, r, h and a glottal stop. Syllables are typically CV or CVC, with no consonant clusters allowed; stress falls on the penultimate syllable.

Morphology and syntax: It is predominantly an agglutinative, subject–object–verb (SOV) language. Nouns take case suffixes such as nominative -a, accusative -o, and dative -u. Verbs encode tense and evidential mood through suffix sequences, for example -ti for past and -ne for evidential. Adjectives precede nouns and agree in case; possessors attach as prefix-like forms on the noun. The language relies on explicit case marking to support flexible word order.

Grammar features: Postpositions replace prepositions; questions are marked by a sentence-final particle -ka. Due to rich morphology, the canonical form is often SOV, but variations are common in prose and dialogue.

Orthography: Jakavansa uses a Latin-based script with diacritics to indicate vowel length and quality, and to signal palatalization of certain consonants. The orthography favors regular correspondences between phonemes and graphemes.

History and usage: The language emerged in the 1990s as part of linguistic exercises and world-building projects. It is used in pedagogy, conlang communities, and fiction, but it has no native-speaking population and is not used as a national or regional language.
