Izzókat is a Hungarian word that translates to "light bulbs" in English. It refers to electric lamps that produce light by heating a filament until it glows. These incandescent bulbs were the primary form of artificial lighting for many decades.

The basic principle behind an izzó involves passing an electric current through a thin wire, typically made of tungsten. This resistance causes the filament to heat up to a very high temperature, emitting visible light. The filament is enclosed in a glass bulb, which is often filled with an inert gas or a vacuum to prevent the filament from oxidizing and burning out too quickly.

While izzókat were once ubiquitous, their energy efficiency has led to their gradual replacement by more modern lighting technologies such as fluorescent lamps and LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs.
