Izomlazulás, often translated as muscle relaxation, refers to the process by which a muscle returns to its resting state after contraction. This involves a series of physiological events at the cellular level. When a nerve impulse stimulates a muscle fiber, calcium ions are released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. These ions bind to troponin, causing a conformational change that allows myosin to interact with actin, forming cross-bridges and initiating the sliding filament mechanism responsible for muscle contraction.

For the muscle to relax, this process must be reversed. The nerve signal ceases, and calcium ions are actively pumped back into the sarcoplasmic reticulum. This removal of calcium from the cytoplasm causes troponin to return to its original position, preventing myosin from binding to actin. The cross-bridges detach, and the muscle fibers lengthen, returning the muscle to its resting length. This relaxation phase is just as crucial as contraction for coordinated movement and maintaining posture. Factors like fatigue, certain medications, and neurological conditions can affect the efficiency of muscle relaxation.
