isyyspäiväraha

Isyyspäiväraha is a statutory benefit in Finland paid to fathers during the paternity leave period. It is a daily allowance that is intended to compensate for the loss of income when a father takes time off work to care for his child. The benefit is funded by Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland.

To be eligible for isyyspäiväraha, a father must have been insured in Finland prior to the birth of the child and meet certain income requirements. The duration of paternity leave and the amount of the daily allowance are determined by law. Typically, fathers are entitled to a specific number of paternity days that can be taken either concurrently with or separately from the mother's maternity leave.

The daily allowance is calculated based on the father's taxable income. There is a minimum and maximum amount for the daily allowance. Fathers can choose to take their paternity leave days at any point during the child's first four years of life, although most choose to take them shortly after birth. The purpose of isyyspäiväraha is to encourage fathers to participate in childcare from an early age and to promote gender equality in parenting responsibilities.
