Examples and implications

A typical example is a gas confined in a rigid, sealed container that is heated. Since the container does not allow volume change, the pressure rises as the temperature increases (for an ideal gas, P ∝ T when V is constant). The work done by the system is zero in an isochoric process because dV = 0, and for an ideal gas the internal energy change ΔU depends only on ΔT (ΔU = nCvΔT). Isokoorinen processes are important in calorimetry, combustion analysis, and many engineering calculations where volume constraints are present.
