iodado

Iodado is a term used in some Romance-language contexts to describe substances in which iodine has been introduced into a molecule or the iodine-containing anion derived from iodine-containing acids. In English, the most common terms are iodinated for organoiodine derivatives and iodate for the IO3− anion. The exact meaning of iodado can vary with language and discipline, so context is important.

In organic chemistry, iodination refers to the process of introducing iodine into an organic substrate. This can occur via electrophilic iodination using iodine (I2) in the presence of oxidants or catalysts, producing iodo compounds such as iodobenzene or various organoiodides. Other methods use reagents such as N-iodosuccinimide (NIS) to achieve more selective iodination. Iodination is widely used to activate substrates for subsequent cross-coupling reactions, for radio-labeling, or as a synthetic handle for further transformations.
