Intravascularity refers to the state or condition of residing within the intravascular compartment, the lumen of the body's blood vessels. It describes substances, cells, or fluids that are contained in or transported through the vasculature, as opposed to occupying the interstitial or intracellular spaces.

The intravascular space consists of the blood plasma and the formed elements circulating within arteries, veins, and capillaries. In clinical and research contexts, intravascularity is important for understanding how substances move through the bloodstream, how drugs are delivered, and how fluids influence circulatory dynamics. In pharmacology, many substances are introduced or tested based on their intravascular distribution, with the bloodstream serving as a central conduit before wider tissue distribution occurs.

Intravascular cells include circulating red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and, in certain conditions, circulating tumor cells. The presence and behavior of these cells within the vessels underpin immune surveillance, hemostasis, and pathologies such as sepsis, thrombosis, and metastasis.

Clinical relevance centers on volume status, perfusion, and vascular integrity. Intravascular volume refers to the blood volume within the circulation and is a key determinant of blood pressure and tissue oxygenation; assessment informs fluid therapy. Vascular obstructions, such as thrombosis and embolism, disrupt intravascular flow and can cause organ injury. Imaging and contrast agents are often used to visualize the intravascular system, while laboratory measures help gauge intravascular components like plasma volume and circulating cells.
