interszekciós is a Hungarian term that translates to "intersection" or "intersectional" in English. It is most commonly used in academic and social discourse to describe the complex and overlapping nature of social identities and the ways in which these identities can lead to unique forms of discrimination or privilege.

The concept of intersectionality, which is closely related to interszekciós, was coined by legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw. She argued that various social categorizations such as race, gender, class, sexual orientation, disability, and religion do not operate independently but rather intersect and create overlapping systems of discrimination or disadvantage. For example, a Black woman may experience discrimination not just because she is Black or because she is a woman, but because of the specific ways in which her Blackness and her womanhood combine.

In Hungary, the term interszekciós is increasingly being adopted to analyze social inequalities and advocate for marginalized groups. It highlights the need to understand how different forms of oppression are interconnected and how addressing one form of discrimination may not be sufficient if others are not also considered. This approach encourages a more nuanced understanding of social justice issues, recognizing that individuals' experiences are shaped by a multitude of intersecting factors. The application of interszekciós thinking aims to create more inclusive policies and social movements that acknowledge and address the multifaceted realities of diverse populations.
