Intagliokalkografia is a term used in Polish-language art history to denote a calcographic or intaglio printmaking method. The word combines intaglio (engraving) with kalkografia (calcography), referring to processes in which the image is formed by incising lines or areas into a metal plate and then printed from the recessed areas. In practice, intagliokalkografia encompasses the family of intaglio techniques—engraving, etching, drypoint, aquatint—often using a ground, acids, or abrasive tools to create the image.
The basic workflow involves preparing a metal plate, usually copper or zinc, by applying a resistant ground.
