Inserttejä is a Finnish term that translates to "insects" in English. This term encompasses a vast and diverse group of arthropods belonging to the class Insecta. Insects are characterized by their three-part body: a head, thorax, and abdomen, with six legs attached to the thorax and typically one or two pairs of wings. They are found in virtually every habitat on Earth, from the deepest oceans to the highest mountains, although they are most prevalent in terrestrial environments.

The life cycles of insects vary greatly. Many undergo complete metamorphosis, progressing through egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Others experience incomplete metamorphosis, where young insects, called nymphs, resemble smaller versions of the adults and molt several times before reaching maturity. Insects play crucial roles in ecosystems, acting as pollinators, decomposers, and a food source for numerous other animals. They can also have significant impacts on human activities, both beneficial, such as in agriculture through pollination and pest control by natural predators, and detrimental, by acting as agricultural pests or vectors for diseases. The study of insects is known as entomology.
