Inkompressiivisia is a term used in physics and engineering to describe fluids that do not change significantly in volume or density when subjected to pressure. This is a theoretical idealization, as all real fluids are technically compressible to some extent. However, for many practical applications, the compressibility of certain fluids is so small that they can be treated as incompressible.

The concept of incompressibility is crucial in the study of fluid dynamics. When a fluid is considered incompressible, it simplifies many mathematical models and equations used to describe its behavior. For instance, the continuity equation, which states that mass is conserved, takes a much simpler form for incompressible flows, reducing to a statement of volume conservation.

Liquids, such as water and oil, are generally considered incompressible under normal conditions. While their density does change slightly with temperature and pressure, these changes are often negligible for many engineering calculations, like those involving fluid flow in pipes or hydraulic systems. Gases, on the other hand, are highly compressible and cannot typically be treated as incompressible unless their velocities are very low compared to the speed of sound within the gas.

The assumption of incompressibility is valid when the Mach number of the flow is significantly less than one (usually below 0.3). The Mach number is the ratio of the flow velocity to the speed of sound. Therefore, at low speeds, the fluid particles do not have enough kinetic energy to significantly alter their volume or density under the applied pressure.
