inkomende

Inkomende is a Dutch adjective meaning incoming or arriving, used to describe items, data, or events that are coming in rather than leaving. It is commonly found in administrative, logistical, IT, and financial contexts to distinguish items that have not yet been processed or finalized.

The term is formed from the verb idea of arriving or coming in and is attached to a noun to indicate its status as something that is arriving. In practical use, you will see expressions such as inkomende post (incoming mail), inkomende e-mail (incoming email), inkomende facturen (incoming invoices), and inkomende gegevens (incoming data). It functions as a descriptive attribute and is typically placed directly before the noun it modifies, often with definite articles (de inkomende post) or after a determiner (een inkomende post).

Inkomende is related to the broader concept of incoming versus outgoing flows. In Dutch, its counterpart is uitgaande, meaning outgoing, as in uitgaande post or uitgaande e-mail. While similar terms like binnenkomend and bin­nenkomende can appear in some contexts, inkomende is the widespread standard form for describing items that are entering a system or process.

Note that inkomende should not be confused with the noun inkomen, which means income. The two terms share a root but belong to different parts of speech and usage.
