Inhibitsioon is a biological process where a substance or factor reduces or prevents the activity of another substance or process. This concept is fundamental in many biological systems, including enzyme kinetics and neural signaling. In enzymology, an inhibitor is a molecule that binds to an enzyme and decreases its activity. This can occur through competitive inhibition, where the inhibitor competes with the substrate for the enzyme's active site, or non-competitive inhibition, where the inhibitor binds to a different site on the enzyme, altering its shape and reducing its efficiency.
In neuroscience, inhibition refers to the dampening of neuronal activity. Neurotransmitters like gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are
