Ilmankäsittelyyksikkö, often abbreviated as AHU (Air Handling Unit), is a mechanical device used to control and maintain the environmental conditions within a building or a specific space. Its primary function is to circulate and condition air, ensuring optimal temperature, humidity, and air quality. AHUs are integral components of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems.

The core components of an ilmankäsittelyyksikkö typically include a fan, heating and cooling elements (coils), filters, and sometimes humidifiers and dehumidifiers. The fan draws in outdoor air and recirculates indoor air, mixing them to the desired ratio. This mixed air then passes through filters to remove particulate matter, allergens, and other pollutants. Subsequently, the air is passed over heating or cooling coils to adjust its temperature to the set point. Humidity control can be achieved through various methods, such as adding moisture with a humidifier or removing it with a dehumidifier or by manipulating the cooling coil's temperature.
