Ilmakuplilla refers to a traditional Finnish folk game that is often played during wintertime, particularly in rural areas. The name "ilmakuplilla" translates roughly to "bubble in the air," reflecting the game's playful and lighthearted nature. The game involves two players standing opposite each other, facing each other at a distance of about 10–15 meters. One player, known as the "thrower," holds a small, soft ball or a piece of cloth tied to a string, while the other player, the "catcher," stands ready. The thrower gently tosses the ball or cloth into the air, aiming to create a visible "bubble" or fluttering motion. The catcher must then attempt to catch the object before it touches the ground. If successful, the catcher becomes the thrower for the next round. If not, the thrower retains their position.

Ilmakuplilla is often played in snowy or icy conditions, as the softness of the ball or cloth allows it to glide smoothly across the snow.
