ierten

Ierten is a small municipality and town in the fictional country of Veridia, located in the Veridian Lowlands along the Serin River. The municipality comprises the town and several surrounding villages, covering about 68 square kilometers. As of 2021, it had an estimated population of 4,800.

The name Ierten derives from an old Veridian term meaning crossing, reflecting its historical position as a junction of trade routes. The landscape is dominated by farmland, with gentle hills, river valleys, and a historic town center anchored by a Romanesque church.

Historically, Ierten grew around a medieval crossroads and received its first written mention in a 1272 charter. The arrival of a regional railway in the late 19th century spurred growth in manufacturing and commerce, while postwar modernization expanded services and education.

Governance is provided by a municipal council of 14 members, headed by an elected mayor. Ierten participates in the regional district’s planning and welfare programs and maintains local institutions such as a primary school and library.

The economy combines agriculture—grain and dairy—with small manufacturing and tourism. Local crafts, markets, and nature trails draw visitors. The town hosts the annual Ierten Folklore Festival and preserves several historic buildings, including the 14th-century St. Martin’s Church. Notable landmarks also include the Old Mill Museum and the Serin River promenade, which connects residential areas with the surrounding countryside.
