In Swedish corporate law, the term is most commonly applied to the removal of a company from the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket), but similar processes exist in other jurisdictions under different names such as deregistration, removal from the trade register, or liquidation.

The process is initiated when the entity's owners decide that continuing the legal existence is no longer necessary. Common reasons for ickeloggning include permanent dissolution of the business, cessation of commercial activity, or failure to comply with regulatory reporting requirements. In some cases, statutory liens or tax obligations may delay or prevent immediate removal.

To effect an ickeloggning in Sweden, the owners must file a formal request with Bolagsverket along with a signed statement affirming that the company has no outstanding liabilities.
