Högtemperaturånga, often translated as high-temperature steam, refers to steam heated above its saturation temperature at a given pressure. This state is known as superheated steam. Unlike saturated steam, which exists in equilibrium with liquid water and is at the boiling point of water for a specific pressure, high-temperature steam has had additional thermal energy added, increasing its temperature.

The properties of high-temperature steam differ significantly from saturated steam. It possesses a lower density and a higher specific volume. Its enthalpy, a measure of its total energy content, is also higher. This increased energy content makes high-temperature steam a more effective working fluid in various thermodynamic cycles.

The primary application of high-temperature steam is in power generation. In thermal power plants, water is heated under pressure to produce saturated steam, which is then further heated in a superheater to achieve high temperatures. This superheated steam drives turbines, which in turn generate electricity. The higher the temperature of the steam, the more efficient the energy conversion process can be, leading to greater electricity output.

Beyond power generation, high-temperature steam finds use in industrial processes requiring high heat transfer rates, such as chemical processing, sterilization, and certain manufacturing operations. Its ability to carry a significant amount of thermal energy and its relatively inert nature make it a versatile medium for heating and driving chemical reactions.
