Hyväntekeisyysjärjestöjen (charitable organizations) are non-profit entities in Finland that aim to promote the public interest by providing goods or services, often in social, cultural, educational or environmental areas. They are regulated under the Finnish Act on Foundations and the Finnish Act on Foundations and Venues, which outline requirements for bylaws, governance, financial reporting and accountability.

These organizations are typically formed by a founding deed, a board of directors and, where required, a supervisory body. The board has a duty of care and must ensure that the organization’s activities comply with its statutes and legal obligations. Charities must register with the Finnish Tax Administration and may qualify for tax‑deductible donations once they meet the criteria set by the Income Tax Act.

Funding for charitable organizations derives mainly from private donations, sponsorships, grants from the state or municipalities, and income from their own activities such as ticket sales, membership fees or product sales. Transparent use of funds and impartial reporting are mandatory, allowing donors to track the impact of their support.

Finnish charities play a crucial role in supplementing public services, particularly in fields where the state sees gaps or focuses on community-specific needs. They also engage in cross‑border cooperation within the European Union and international NGOs, promoting shared values of solidarity and social responsibility.
