Hypoksemiaa is not a recognized medical term in standard clinical usage. It appears to be either a misspelling or a nonstandard variant of hypoxemia, the condition defined by a reduced level of oxygen in arterial blood. When encountered in medical texts, hypoksemiaa is typically interpreted as referring to hypoxemia, or occasionally as a mistaken form of related concepts such as hypoxia.

In medical practice, hypoxemia denotes insufficient arterial oxygen tension, commonly measured as a low PaO2 on arterial blood gas testing or a low oxygen saturation (SaO2) on co-oximetry or pulse oximetry. Hypoxemia can result from several mechanisms, including hypoventilation (inadequate breathing), diffusion impairment, ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) mismatch, and right-to-left shunts. It may also occur at high altitude where inspired oxygen content is reduced. Anemia can reduce oxygen carrying capacity without necessarily lowering PaO2.

Clinical presentation varies with severity and rapidity of onset. Mild hypoxemia may be asymptomatic, while more significant deficits can cause dyspnea, tachycardia, tachypnea, confusion, or cyanosis in some individuals. Diagnosis relies on arterial blood gas analysis, as well as measurements of oxygen saturation via pulse oximetry.

Management focuses on correcting the underlying cause and optimizing oxygen delivery. Treatments may include supplemental oxygen, ventilatory support in severe cases, and addressing conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, or acute respiratory distress.
