Hyönteisyhteisö, or insect community in English, refers to the collection of different insect species that live together in a particular habitat. This community includes all the various insects present, from the smallest springtails to larger beetles and butterflies. The interactions between these species are crucial for the functioning of the ecosystem.

The composition of an insect community is influenced by various factors, including climate, soil type, vegetation, and the presence of predators and competitors. Different habitats, such as forests, grasslands, wetlands, and urban areas, support distinct insect communities with unique species assemblages. For example, a forest floor might host a community rich in detritivores like beetles and millipedes, while a meadow might be dominated by pollinators like bees and butterflies, along with herbivores like grasshoppers.

Within a hyönteisyhteisö, species play different ecological roles. Some are primary producers (though insects are rarely this), others are primary consumers (herbivores), secondary or tertiary consumers (predators and parasites), and decomposers.
