huollettaviksi
Huollettaviksi is a Finnish grammatical form used to express that someone is to be cared for or placed under care. It is the translative plural form of the present passive participle huollettava, which comes from the verb huoltaa meaning to care for, maintain, or look after. In this construction the stem huollettav- combines with the translative ending -ksi to indicate a change of state, here “to become care recipients.” The singular counterpart is huollettavaksi.
The form is most often found in contexts related to social services, health care, and child welfare,
- Lapsi haluaa tulla huollettavaksi. (The child wants to become someone who is to be cared for.)
- Kunta päätöksellään siirsi useita lapsia huollettaviksi. (With its decision, the municipality placed several children into care.)
- He tulevat huollettaviksi myöhemmin tässä prosessissa. (They will become care recipients later in this process.)
- Huollettava is the present passive participle meaning “to be cared for” or “care recipient,” and -ksi/-iksi
- The form huollettaviksi is relatively formal and common in official documents and discussions about welfare arrangements;
