A holoblast is a type of ovum, or egg cell, that undergoes total or complete cleavage during early embryonic development. This means that the entire egg cell divides, rather than just a portion of it. Holoblastic cleavage occurs in eggs with relatively little yolk or in eggs where the yolk is evenly distributed.
