Applications span jet and gas-turbine engines, power-generation turbines, space launch and propulsion systems, and industrial furnaces and chemical processing equipment. Design considerations include long-term creep resistance, oxidation and hot-corrosion protection, diffusion barriers, and effective thermal management. Materials are often used in conjunction with cooling strategies, surface coatings, and refined microstructures to balance strength, toughness, and durability.

Ongoing research focuses on developing materials with higher operating temperatures, greater damage tolerance, and improved environmental resistance. Advances include novel alloys and intermetallics, advanced ceramic composites, next-generation coatings, and manufacturing approaches such as additive manufacturing to enable complex cooling channels and weight reduction.
