Visible light emitted during welding is extremely bright and can cause temporary or permanent damage to the eyes if viewed directly. Infrared radiation is primarily associated with heat and can contribute to thermal burns on the skin and eyes. Ultraviolet radiation, while invisible, is particularly hazardous. Exposure to UV radiation from welding can cause acute effects like photokeratitis, commonly known as "welder's flash," which is a painful inflammation of the cornea. Chronic exposure to UV radiation can increase the risk of developing cataracts and skin cancer.
