Hitsausasennon refers to the welding position. Welding positions are standardized classifications that describe the orientation of the joint to be welded relative to the welder and gravity. These positions are crucial for selecting the correct welding procedure, consumables, and techniques to achieve a sound weld.

The most common classification system defines four basic positions: flat (1), horizontal (2), vertical (3), and overhead (4). Each position presents unique challenges due to the influence of gravity and the molten weld pool. In the flat position, gravity aids the welder, allowing for easier control of the weld puddle and typically producing the highest quality welds. The horizontal position requires the welder to counteract gravity's pull, often leading to a more convex weld bead. Vertical welding can be performed upwards (uphill) or downwards (downhill), each with different penetration and deposition characteristics. The overhead position is the most demanding, as the welder must work against gravity, requiring precise control and often resulting in a flatter bead profile.

Beyond these basic positions, there are also pipe welding positions, which are a subset of the general positions but specifically tailored for welding pipes. These are often designated with additional suffixes, such as "fixed" or "rotating." Understanding and correctly identifying the welding position is fundamental for weld procedure specifications (WPS) and ensuring the integrity and quality of welded joints in various applications, from construction to manufacturing.
