highluminance
Highluminance refers to surfaces or displays that emit or reflect light at high levels of brightness. Luminance is the photometric quantity that describes perceived brightness per unit area and is measured in candela per square meter (cd/m^2); the informal term “nit” is commonly used in display engineering, where 1 nit equals 1 cd/m^2. Luminance differs from illuminance, which measures incident light on a surface and is expressed in lux. Luminance depends on the surface’s reflectance or emissivity, the lighting geometry, and the observer’s viewing angle.
Measurement and standards: Luminance is measured with specialized instruments such as luminance meters or calibrated cameras.
Applications and design considerations: Highluminance is important in outdoor signage, automotive dashboards and displays, aviation and
Safety and human factors: Excessive or poorly controlled brightness can cause glare, discomfort, and eye strain.
