Hierakio, also known as Hierakonpolis or Edfu West, was a significant archaeological site in Southern Egypt, particularly famous for its association with the ancient city of Hierakonpolis, which was once a major cultural and economic center of the Predynastic Period, preceding ancient Egypt's unification.

Discovered in 1898, Hierakio has since been excavated extensively, and its findings have greatly contributed to the understanding of ancient Egyptian prehistory. Archaeological research and excavations in the area suggest that Hierakio was a fortified temple city, likely the seat of power for the rulers of Nekhen, a predynastic state believed by some scholars to be the earlier name of the powerful city of Hierakonpolis.

Excavations at Hierakio have shed light on several important structures, including several sacred buildings and tombs of the Predynastic Period. Especially notable is the temple of the cult of the falcon, or Horus, where a dynasty of kings is said to have ruled, before their eventual absorption into the unified nation of Egypt under Pharaoh Narmer. Among the treasures unearthed are over 30 high-quality stone vessels, and several bronze and copper artifacts, some of which show evidence ofaina fine creativity and craftsmanship.
