Hidrogénképz is a Hungarian term that translates to "hydrogen production" or "hydrogen generation." It refers to the various processes and technologies used to create hydrogen gas. Hydrogen is a versatile element with significant potential as a clean energy carrier.

The primary methods for producing hydrogen can be categorized into several groups. Steam methane reforming (SMR) is currently the most common and cost-effective method, utilizing natural gas as a feedstock. Electrolysis, which uses electricity to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen, is gaining traction as a "green" hydrogen production method, especially when powered by renewable energy sources. Other methods include coal gasification, partial oxidation of hydrocarbons, and biomass gasification.

The choice of hydrogen production method has a significant impact on its environmental footprint. Hydrogen produced via SMR or coal gasification often has a high carbon dioxide emission associated with it, leading to the classification of "grey" or "brown" hydrogen. In contrast, hydrogen produced through electrolysis powered by renewable electricity is termed "green" hydrogen and is considered a zero-emission fuel. "Blue" hydrogen refers to hydrogen produced from fossil fuels with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies implemented to mitigate emissions.
