A henchwoman is a female subordinate who assists a villain or criminal mastermind. The term is the feminine equivalent of henchman and carries similar connotations of loyalty, subservience, and participation in illegal or nefarious activities. Henchwomen are often depicted as physically capable, intelligent, and possessing specialized skills such as combat, espionage, or technical expertise.

In popular culture, henchwomen serve various roles within a villain's organization. Some act as bodyguards or enforcers, directly carrying out the villain's orders through physical confrontation or intimidation. Others may be strategists or operatives, responsible for planning and executing complex schemes. Their motivations can range from financial gain and a desire for power to personal loyalty to the villain or even a shared ideology.

The portrayal of henchwomen has evolved over time. Early depictions often emphasized their subservient role and secondary status to the male villain. More recent portrayals have increasingly explored their agency, motivations, and capabilities, sometimes presenting them as complex characters with their own ambitions and backstories. Despite this evolution, the core concept of a henchwoman remains that of a trusted, albeit often expendable, associate to a primary antagonist.
